The development began back in February 2022 to uncover a section of the canal that hasn\u2019t been seen for over 70 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From a 19th-century dock feeder canal, the 70-metre section will evolve into a miraculous central canal quarter feature. The development scheme, with Knights Brown as the main contractor, is expected to cost 6 million pounds, and incorporates the construction of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Two footbridges<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A cantilevered stage<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rain gardens to manage drainage<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Constructed in the 1830s, the stretch was originally used to offer a continuous supply of water to the Bute docks. This enabled large container ships to dock in Cardiff even at low tide and helped to make it a leading port for iron ore and coal.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1950, the canal has been covered up. However, 72 years on this is being reinstated to help reduce traffic in the city centre and manage surface water drainage.
